is as pretty today as it was when owned and enjoyed as a prop at Desilu Studios, Inc, , in Hollywood, California when owned by Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz of I Love Lucy fame.
It has been in a distinguished early TV show and Movie Prop collection since Desilu Studios closed and can now be yours if you're the winner of this auction.

If you have any questions or are looking for specific items please feel free to contact us at our Los Angeles offices through Ebay email. *****************************************************************************************Consigned to our estate firm by a long time Movie and TV Show Prop collector who actually worked at the famous Desilu studios in Hollywood, California during the studio's "Hey Days, " this wonderful Vintage bowl with its beautiful rose bud and leaves in the center has the "Look" of being painted by hand, but with closer inspection is a fired on decal. It is in incredible original condition and was originally used as a prop on "I Love Lucy" and other films and TV shows shot at Desilu Studios in Hollywood, California. Through the years, this piece has remained in one prestigious collection among other props from some of the most famous early television shows that entertained the masses since television began. As you can see in our photos here, the bowl is rectangular shaped with a scalloped edge and those scalloped shapes actually follow down to the center in the porcelain. The bowl could be used as an ashtray, candy dish, tea bag caddy, hairpin holder etc. It is clearly marked Japan underneath but what is extra special about this piece is that it retains its original Desilu Studios label in the beautiful modern ribbon font used on Desilu signage and stationary during the years the studio complex was owned by Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz and as shown in the opening and closing credits of the I Love Lucy TV Show.Measuring nearly 3-1/4” by 2-1/2”. The bowl/dish is in wonderful all original condition, however, does show many original manufacturing flaws. Our pointer shows porcelain pimples that appear under the clear glaze. This happens in the studio, as the unfired clay is removed from its mold by the artisan/ handlers along with tiny chips in the clay, that are then fired and glazed over. These pieces were never sold as "Fine" China, and weren't very expensive. Lucy could have bought this at the old Farmers Market Tourist shops, or in China Town. According to the current owner, who actually worked with Lucille Ball at Desilu Studios : " Lucy loved anything with roses on it. She had a lot of porcelain pieces in her office/dressing room on the Paramount RKO lot and some of those pieces were also used as props on I Love Lucy, and in other Tv sitcoms and films shop on the Desilu Studios lots during the years Lucy and Desi owned the company."As you can see in our photos here, there are teeny, tiny chip's underneath the trinket dish and if you run your fingers over the segmented scallops they feel a bit rough. Slight surface scratches from age and use are also slightly noticeable overall, however, do not detract from the beauty or originality of this rare prop. Our client told us this piece was chipped when he bought it but didn’t matter to him, since the bowl retains its original Desilu Studios label, making it very valuable. Our client originally bought this piece at an estate sale held at Lucy and Gary Morton's Beverly Hills Home after Lucille's death. Our client actually worked at Desilu Studios at the RKO/Paramount lots and the Cahuenga lot back in the 1950s in wardrobe on numerous television sitcoms and loved working for Lucy and Desi so this piece reminded him of them. During the research for a book where this piece has been photographed to appear, the author met and interviewed Lucille Ball who showed him many props used on her most famous TV sitcom that she brought home for her personal use. During that interview, Lucille Ball told the author that all of the props used on I Love Lucy were stamped with the official Desilu Studios, Inc., stamp or simply marked Desilu. In fact, most of the props they bought for use on their Desilu studios properties were marked in this way. Through the years, our client has loaned this piece to several museums displayed with other props used on I Love Lucy, The Dick Van Dyke Show, The Jack Benny Show, and The Andy Griffith Show, and the original Star Trek to name a few. This bowl was used on a variety of shows all filmed at Desilu as a prop. This piece has recently been photographed to appear in the new book: “Collectibles of the Stars” written by Historian, Antique Dealer, and prop collector: Michael J. Kouri—Currently the published author of over 70 books on a variety of topics. Owning a copy of the book and this bowl will surely help it rise in value in the future. Copies of the book this piece will appear in will be sold on Ebay when it is released and published. Our professional appraiser attributes it’s country of manufacture to the United States, the California Pottery company, vintage to the 1940s/50s and current value $149.00 complete with our certificate of provenance.
