If you have any questions or are looking for specific items please feel free to contact us at our Los Angeles offices through Ebay email. *****************************************************************************************This lovely vintage Red Oval simulated pearl pin was originally part of the jewelry props used exclusively by the Ethel Mertz character from the world's funniest television sitcom of all time “I Love Lucy, ” along with "The Lucy Desi Comedy Hour" and other TV shows she appeared on with Lucille Ball throughout her career. Measuring just a hair over 1” wide by 3/4” wide, as you can see in our photos here, the pin is in wonderful original condition save slight surface scratches and dust from age and use. What makes this piece extra special is the fact that it was made for the Ethel Mertz character to wear on the show by the Desilu Studios prop and wardrobe department. The pin actually retains its original old Desilu Studio’s Inc label on the back, under the original glued on safety pin clasp. Though the type is a bit blurred, it reads Desilu Studios Inc, in the beautiful special ribbon font created for Desilu’s signage and stationary. During the research for his books, Jewels of the Movie Stars and the Glamour of Hollywood’s Part, and Collectibles of the Stars, the author had the rare opportunity to meet and interview both Vivian Vance and Lucille Ball. At the time of their first meeting Vivian was actually wearing this pin on her lapel. When the author complimented her on her jewelry she told him Lucy had this pin made for me by the prop and wardrobe department at Desilu Studios for me to wear when I portrayed Ethel Mertz on “I Love Lucy” I liked it so much, she let me keep it after our show went off the air and we began to make “Lucy, and Desi Comedy Hour” episodes. She and Lucy also shared some facts and tidbits about working on the various lots at Desilu and guest stars who appeared with them through the years. If you’ll remember her character in I Love Lucy, “Ethel Mertz was almost always shown in plain down home style clothing and jewelry, but every once in awhile, the director/wardrobe department allowed her to wear “other” jewelry including this pin, which I wore a lot as Ethel Mertz.” - - Vivian Vance (one of the quotes shown in the books below where this piece has been photographed to appear when they are released). The pin is made up of 3 rows of the reddish oval shaped simulated glass pearls which have been glued to each other and fastened to the gold plated oval shaped disc on the back. You’ll also notice the gold plated glued on security clasp which still works well. As you can see in our pics here, some of the clear glue is showing, but is original to this pin). “I also wore a similar pair of earrings in some of the episodes on the shows, and in other TV appearances, talk shows, and in my personal life.” - -Vivian Vance (another of the quotes that will be shown in the books). Several years before her death in December of 1979, she donated several pieces of her personally owned props and costume jewelry to a Hollywood Children’s Hospital Charity auction along with dozens of other stars of popular television shows and films including Lucille Ball.
