The vessel was a liberty ship delivered to the Pacific-Atlantic Steamship company and operated in the Pacific theater of WW II until May 2, 1945 when it was damaged by a mine in Manila Harbor. It was towed back to New York where she was declared a constructive total loss and was subsequently scrapped in Baltimore in September 1947.
This is a beautifully constructed box made by Shreve & Co of San Francisco. There is no damage (dents, seam breaks or obvious scratches) to the box and with a good polish, it will be as good as ever. Without the wood liner, the box weighs 20.2 ounces (18.4 troy ounces). The box measures 9.25" x 3.25" x 2.625". The box is an interesting historical piece for collectors of wartime memorabilia or, alternatively, as an investment in sterling silver. Check out the value of and ounce of sterling these days. Shipping is via priority mail.
