I have here for sale a RARE COMPLETE SET of BUFFON'S NATURAL HISTORY ; CONTAINING THE THEORY OF THE EARTH, A GENERAL HISTORY OF MANY OF THE BRUTE CREATION AND OF MINERALS AND VEGETABLES - in 10 VOLUMES PLUS NATURAL HISTORY OF BIRDS, FISHES, REPTILES AND INSECTS: FORMING A COMPLETE SUPPLEMENT TO BUFFON'S NATURAL HISTORY OF THE EARTH in 6 VOLUMES, so 16 volumes in total!. Translated by James Smith Barr from the original French of BUFFON. These books ( Price £3.15s or With plat...es coloured £5.12s) were published in 1808 by Symonds, London - " Printed for the Proprietors and Sold by all Booksellers".
Thoroughly and beautifully illustrated by BARR with 248 plates (remarkably bright), volumes iii-iv have 5 toned plates, volumes v-ix have hand coloured plates featuring Figures 1 - 219. Volumes ii & x do not have any plates ( Volume I has frontispiece of author George Louis Le Clerc - Count of Buffon). The Supplement Volumes also have hand coloured plates. Illustrated pages mostly feature 2 plates and so I have counted the plates not the pages - all are present.

Uniformly bound in green paper covered boards. Green linen taped spines which are sunned. Black title lettering on label to the spines. Corners are bumped and spotting to the boards. Cracking to interior hinges. Inked signature to the front endpaper, some of which are loose, title page of Vol I pulling. These books are in good condition, most pages are clean and bright, and they are tightly bound with no missing pages 21cm x 13cm
