Monipennie, John. The Abridgement Or Summarie Of The Chronicles Of Scotland. [Edinburgh]: [Printed by George Swintoun & George Greg], [1671].12mo, 15cm, [2], 288p. (i.e. wanting title page, last leaf & folding table), attractive engraved initial letters and small decorative headpieces. Original sheep leather binding (worn; upper corner of lower board broken but held by leather).
Monipennie?s po...pular History of Scotland was much reprinted from first publication in the early 17th century and an early copy from 1671 is offered here detailing the history of the Scottish monarchy from the first king of Scotland to the 16th century followed by list of the kings, a description of Scotland and the Western Isles and Orkney & Shetland and mention of some of the notable and rare things of Scotland. A modest copy (dog-earing to upper corner of first & last thirty pages; two gatherings almost detached and held by stitching; inner marginal stain & creasing to last two leaves; loss to upper corner of last leaf).
