An historic manuscript stampless letter with War of 1812 content, dated Huntsburgh, Canada, August 4, 1813, from John T. Addams, a Methodist preacher and missionary working with the Indians on the frontier of New England and Lower Canada, to his parents, John and Mary Addams living in Middlebury, Vermont. They had left their home in Plattsburgh, New York, when threatened by British forces, and moved the family to Vermont for safety.....He describes his work with the Indians, his own po...or health, and the fact that he had to take an oath of allegiance to preach in Canada. He is opposed to the war and does not feel threatened but describes the present situation on the frontier, warns the British have burned Plattsburgh and the barracks at Swanton, but there is quiet where he is, with only rumors of the war, but fears what may come.....The Addams family had been early settlers on the frontier of Plattsburgh, New York.
