You are bidding on a near complete 1961 edition APBA Football Game from with cards based on the 1959 season. The cards were used but are in very good to excellent condition. The cards have no markings on them. There is some yellowing from age. There are no dice and shakers. The game box cover is torn (see photo). The game boards are included. The game boards changed for this third year of the game. From the APBA order form: “Although you do n...ot need new playing boards to use the new cards there have been a number of alterations which heighten the statistical accuracy with respect to blocked kicks, field goals, interceptions, kick-off returns, etc.”The seller purchased the set when it was issued by APBA in the summer of 1960. The set has been in storage for over 50 years. I collected APBA Football from the first year of issue. It is time to downsize so I am offering this and other sets as others might be interested in collecting. About the 1959 season:There were 12 teams in the league. The NFL had six teams in each conference. Each team would play a home-and-away game against the other 5 teams in its conference, and two games outside the conference. The Bears and Cardinals, and the Redskins and Colts, faced each other in an inter conference game each year.The Eastern Conference was won by the New York Giants with a 10-2 record.In the Western Conference the Baltimore Colts led by MVP Johnny Unitas finished first with a 9 - 3 mark.In the championship game the Colts handled the Giants 31 - 16.Vince Lombardi was named Coach of the Year. This was the last year of the Chicago Cardinals (2 - 10) as they moved to St. Louis for 1960.Paul Hornung was the leading scorer with 94 points, Ray Berry and Jim Brown led in TDs with 14, and Raymond Berry Caught 66 passes 19 more than anyone else.
