As I investigated the origins of these unique candle holder sconces, I noted that each sconce was marked with the letters IG and the name BERG. My research indicates that these sconces were handcrafted and hand burnished at the Geddy Foundry in Williamsburg, Virginia, using 18th Century methods. The sconces were made while th...e master founder, Sven Berg was the master in residence.
Mr. Berg replaced Max Rieg as the master founder at the foundry in the early 1950's. The handmade items they created are increasingly rare and hard to find. Many of the items they produced were reproductions of items found in excavations in Colonial Williamsburg in the 1930's and 1940's. The IG, I referred to was the touch mark for James Geddy, the original founder in Colonial Williamsburg in the 18th Century.
The sconces measure approximately 16.5 inches from a wall and the base is 6 inches wide. The wall screws are not included.
The sconces are brass and have a pewter/silver like finish. They are very special and unique.
