Offered this week is a very special FRANCIS LEEKYA Zuni travertine stone bear fetish carving (or is it a bobcat?). Francis Leekya was the son of Leekya Deyuse, and the brother of Alice Homer and Sarah Leekya. He passed away in 2003. If you are looking at this auction, you are well aware that his carvings have a unique, charming quality and do not show up very often. (I always have trouble parting with one. (Look at that face))! This carving was acquired by me from Grey Dog Trading, ori...ginally coming out of a serious collector's estate in Northern California. I'm hoping to recoup my investment and would be pleased for it's adoption. I purchased it 8 or 9 years ago. The bear/bobcat is a good size and weighty. It is 3 1/2" long, about 1 1/8" wide, and almost 2" tall to top of bundle. The bundle is abalone shell (Francis's special style, like a bear claw) turquoise arrowhead and a branch of coral wrapped with sinew. She/He has inlaid turquoise eyes. Not signed, which is typical for this artist. The stone has great patterns and variety and all lines and variants are natural to the stone. SHIPPING to USA ONLY at this time.
