Original Description:
A fine antique Sevres French bisque (biscuit) figurine depicting a winged cupid on rock with quivver beside him. This is after Etienne Falconet's 1757 marble sculpture (In the 18th century this famous sculpture was known by various nicknames, the best known of which was l’amour menaçant, ‘menacing love’. The threat is most evident in the Cupid’s knowing gaze, while the gesture he makes invokes us to secrecy. The statue was made for Madame de Pompadour, King Louis XV’s art-loving mist...ress. ) Size: 9" tall. Signed with impressed Sevres mark and number 143 on underside. Good overall condition with 2 toes chipped on his right foot and a couple shallow rim flakes as shown. Circa early 1900's.
