Original Description:
Up for auction is my IBM ThinkPad 755CD. This was the first laptop to come with an internal CD-ROM drive, which makes getting games, software and other files on and off the machine extremely simple compared to other laptops (or even desktops) of this era. I'm actually also including the internal floppy disk drive with the auction. This computer had the ability to warm-swap the drive between floppy and CD-ROM.. Another great feature as you can't boot from a CD-ROM on these older machine...s, they require a DOS floppy boot disk in order to install a new operating system via CD-ROM or HDD.

Everything on it works, I've been using it to play old DOS games and run vintage software programs, which is does marvelously. It boots up quickly, the LCD hinges are nice and tight, it has all its plastic covers and both kickstand feet intact on the bottom side... Everything is as it should be on this machine. The battery was taken out prior to my ownership so there's no corrosion issues on any of the boards. I had to replace the LCD, keyboard and main system board when I got it so those parts are essentially new.. I got all NOS parts.

Listing comes with the laptop, OEM charger, a 16MB memory card (for 24MB total RAM, see photo for system specs) and both the floppy disk drive and the CD-ROM drive. This model has a warm-swap feature allowing the user to swap the CD-ROM for the floppy while the OS is on, just by opening up the 'hood, ' as I call it. When the hood is opened (aka keyboard popped up), the computer automatically turns itself onto some kind of BIOS-induced standby so that you can swap the drive. Once the hood is back down, the computer starts where it left off. Having the extra memory is extremely useful when trying to run more complicated pieces of software or certain games.. Sometimes these memory modules alone can sell for pretty big money.
Everything works, the floppy drive, the CD-ROM drive, both speakers, the microphone (which is another cool feature).. It's set up with the stock ThinkPad 755CD system image including the dual-boot screen on startup asking whether you want to boot into OS/2 Warp 3 or Windows 3.11. The computer shows no codes upon startup, not even CMOS codes. It boots without hassle every time. I have over $250 into this machine as well as probably close to 40 hours of research and tear-down time troubleshooting all the issues it used to have. Don't take it for granted this thing works and has all new parts! :-)
Only annoying thing with ALL of these machines is the plastic's tendency to become slightly sticky (or worse, depending on how it was treated). You can see some mild marks on this computer, keep in mind the photos were taken in harsh sunlight. I'm very OCD about my collections and found this computer's condition to be well above-average so I left it as-is. The sides and rear have the worst of it and those are pieces you won't be looking at very often, even if the computer is on display. And, for the record, those pieces aren't very sticky at all compared to some of the other ThinkPads I've seen. They can be handled easily and without concern of creating marks by pushing your fingerprint too hard. If you'd like, I'll include a Scotch-Brite pad. These will remove most the marks and stickiness at the expense of losing the top layer of plastic.. Which probably doesn't matter but I just didn't care enough to do it on this machine because the plastic looks good as-is. Trust me, you really won't notice it once you have the machine sitting in front of you. The reason I'm writing all this is because if my buyers are anything like me, you'll be scrutinizing these images pretty harshly.. And I can't blame you for that!

Please let me know if you have any questions. I'm happy to consider all reasonable offers. I'll be sure to pack everything up very carefully and plan to ship via USPS Priority Mail. Thanks for looking!
