This is a early 1920's 450 LENCI Curly Blonde Hair Brown Eyed 13" Jointed Adorable GirlCute curved legs and arms. Original organza and felt dress has an under ruffled slip. Not sure what that pink felt strip on the back is? The felt in the back of the dress has holes as pictured, they used high quality pure wool felt.I bought the doll in this condition, hard to resist those Children's Lenci faces. All her joints work some tight, which I did not ...force due to the Lenci's age. She is as pictured. She is in well loved condition, has some moth holes on that lovely face as pictured.
According to Lenci Dolls by Dorothy S. Coleman, Lenci dolls were made Prior to World War I until the 2002. Because of this long history of doll making through the decades, there are many types and construction techniques found in the dolls. During the depression and occupation of Italy in World War II, materials were scarce and Lenci used what was available to them. Lenci evolved with the times, bisque dolls and even later plastic dolls made. The 1920's were Lenci haydays with over 350 employees working in the factory, numerous artist painting dolls and sewing elaborate outfits. These dolls were not CHEAP, advertising to the movie stars and rich of the time. Their high price, combined with the elaborate costumes that clothed the dolls and the precision workmanship underneath, drew adult doll enthusiasts to Lenci. As a result, the dolls were always handled with care, which is why so many museum-quality examples of Lenci dolls from the 1920s and ’30s can be found today. Lenci dolls range in size from a tiny 5" to 48" tall.
