Original Description:
1830's stamped brass, pre Civil War, spread wing eagle with shield militia hat plate. It is 8-sided and has a nice mellow patina. The reverse has the original lead solder applied brass attachment wires. It measures 43 mm's wide. These shako plates were attached to the sides of early militia hats. I have also seen them attached to the fronts of early militia hats. The last picture is an 1830's militia hat, in my personal collection, showing a similar shako plate in use. The pictures are... accurate as to its condition. Please look at my other auctions.
