Here is a rare and unusual early 20th century antique hand embroidered cushion or pillow cover. It is a large size, measuring 28" inches across by 19" inches high and the decorative embroidery is very good quality.
The beautifully coloured design features a pair of tropical birds, flowers and leaves and is worked in pinks, lilac, green, orange, gold blue and other colours. The woollen thread embroidery has been worked onto a black wool ground and the back of the cover is made ...from black silk. It opens on one side with a section of black silk to allow the cushion pad or pillow to be taken in and out of the cushion. This may have been stitched closed at some point in its history as the upper edge is not hemmed.
It is in excellent condition, the colours of the embroidery threads look as bright as the day this was made.
