Shousan:
This exquisite illustration Shoushan stone, which is a kind of alabaster, extracted from a mountain called Shoushan in the northern suburbs of Fuzhou. This art is common in Jin'an area Fuzhou, capital of Fujian Province on the east coast of China. Soft touch, smooth surface and various colors Shoushan stone is ideal for carving material known as-grade colored "stone carving above. "It is characterized by delicacy, softness and cohesion.
Shoushan Stone is composed of lava and minerals around it, gradually refrozen on a colored crystalline Oregon which compares favorably against the jade, it is superior in the range of color, texture, quality and some other fields. It is an exquisite example of craftsmanship China. It is a truly incredible craftsmanship, for its charm and its rarity. It has a very high value among collectors. Shoushan Stone is the best of all the various existing colored stones in China.

There are about one hundred kinds of Shoushan stone. The most precious kind - Tianhuang stone - is more valuable than gold and enjoys a reputation as "the king of stones. "It is said that an liang (50 grams) Tianhuang stone equals three liang of gold.
It has been more than 1, 500 years since Shoushan stone was exploited as a precious stone for its gorgeous colors, smooth and moist character and its various and changeable veins. During the Sung dynasty (1127-1279), Shoushan stones had already been largely exploited. The Shoushan carving industry, was finally formed after the continuous development in the Yuan (1271-1368), Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911). Even the royal seals of the Qing emperors were made of Shoushan stone.
