Offered is a stunning 1850-1899 circa Beaver/Felted Black Top Hat made by the Truss Hat Company of London exclusively for the Colwell Brothers clothier out of Halifax, Nova Scotia. This, absolutely pristine hat is well over 100 years old, is in unbelievably perfect condition for its age. It would be almost impossible to find another hat this age that is in such excellent condition. These types of Beaver/felt hats were worn by gentlemen as a status symbol. This ...particular hat was owned by a young preacher from Halifax Nova Scotia. See his picture in the above photos. The provenance of this hat comes from his granddaughter from which the hat was handed down through family members. The hat itself has a brim that is 2 inches in depth with a height of 6 inches. The circumference of the hat is approximately 36 inches in diameter. On the inside of the hat there is a 3 inch leather band with a pale yellow silk lining. This hat has a 2 inch wide felt-like ribbon around the hat which is very complimentary to the hat. Inside the hat is a Truss Hat Company Label with the words, "made exclusively for Colwell Brothers-Halifax Nova Scotia". There is some pink staining on the lining of the hat presumably from the label. The circumference of the inside of the hat is approximately 6 X 8 inches. I do not see a size listed for this hat. There is no wear or tear or problems of any kind with this beautiful hat. It has been preserved in the leather carrying case and protected from harm. The hat comes with a leather original carrying case with red velvet lining and is form fitting around the hat to protect it. Another added bonus to the quality and uniqueness of this gorgeous hat is the hat brush that comes in a little velvet case that would be used to brush the hat and keep it clean. The leather carrying case is solid and sturdy leather but does show some wear and tear. The leather straps to secure the lid are missing but there is a sturdy leather handle that is still intact on the top of the carrying case. This item is the real deal and would not be easily found again in this condition and completeness.
