PLEASE EXAMINE ALL PHOTOS AS THEY ARE PART OF THIS DOLL'S DESCRIPTION. This particular doll came to us in two pieces: the upper torso and the lower legs, both bleeding tons of sawdust all over the mailing box and our livingroom carpet. (Thank heaven for dust busters!) Needless to say, her body was unuseable unless we wanted to be cleaning sawdust out of the carpet for the next three months--which we didn't--so we deep-sixed the old one and came up with a fresh new muslin bo...dy from our friend, Linda Sue Hill, who does all our bodies, and is quite a talented doll maker in her own right. The doll is stuffed with polyfiber, which is sacrilige to the purists out there who believe all china heads should be filled with sawdust, but as we are a disabled workshop and have a hard enough time making messes without the challenge of sawdust all over the place, we give you polyfil. And THAT stil ends up in the most amazing places!! That said, let's move on to the doll herself. we are unsure of her origin, but does she not have the most serene expression? She is free of all chips and cracks and has minimal paint loss and rubbings. The color is just lovely, not overly bright, but beautiful, like she is. Note the peachy cheeks, the rose color to the slight smile, her blue eyes, and the apricot line to denote the upper lid. She is not an example of a low-brow doll nor is she high brow. This puts her age around 1870 to 1880s. Her head is marked with a "6" as are all her appendages. She wears an adorable summer dress that is ready for you next picnic fashioned from tiny cream and brown checked material, gathered in layers of flounces. It has the look of a cream colored blouse with this gathered tiered checked skirt, but they are attached with a wide waistband. There are check fabric covered buttons up the front of the "blouse" and a removeable checked vest is included. The blouse has a wide collar that is edged with checked material gathers. Conversely, each of the three tiers of the gathered skirt are edged with plain cream colored flouncing. Just precious. She wears a pair of cream pantelletes and a double layer crinoline. Her brown china boots happen to match everything. What luck!
