Interesting French? 18k Gold 1/4 Quarter Repeater Pocket Watch
Item History & Price
Slide repeater operating on two gongs. It has a nice clear sound. Here is a video of the watch in operation on Youtube. Pin or nail setting. The movement has a cylinder escapement which I don’t think is common for a keyless winding repeater watch. It has nicely polished steel parts and is obviously a high quality watch. Keeping good time - not quartz time but very good for an antique watch.
I believ...e the case is 18k due to the French Eagle hallmark. The watch runs and the repeater operates correctly. There are one or two little dings in the case - one on the back cover - shallow and one on the dust cover - more of a ping. Also with an autograph or signature type name engraved on the back cover. There was a famous or wealthy Walter Schroeder but unsure if this was his.
The dial is slip or friction fit. Marked for J. Lacharme Paris - I think the retailer. As you can see there is some type of maker mark on the movement on the pillar plate. But I’d have to dismantle it more to have a chance at identifying. Hinges are good and covers close tightly.
There is a mark on an inside case cover - SG with a key symbol. Research indicates this is the case maker mark and from Besançon France. The underside of the dial has a ZJ. mark. The case has a serial no. of 14803.
