What a great example of a period New England Push-Up Candle Stick with a Rare Sand Weight Design.
This piece dates circa 1790-1830. Was purchased at Last Years Cooperstown NY Antique Show from a dealer who acquired it out of a New Hampshire collection of early lighting some time ago.

As you can see the piece exhibits the design qualities of this style candleholder with the base being "weighted" with internally keep sand. This would of course prevent the candleholder from tipping over and starting a fire.
The center shaft features a "push up " tab mechanism that would allow the user to raise and lower a wax or tallow candlestick.
Great period construction with a great formed in wax drip pan.
The narrowly upworking design of the base has great signs of original soldering on the seams. Though it may be hard to make out in the photographs this base area has punched out diamond shape decorative patterns that run a linear shape across the bottom center.
Overall though the piece is in very good+ original condition; there is some pitting and oxidation as one would expect from age, some of the oxidation appears under the green paint suggesting the paint was coated at some point in its lifetime. Some flaking to the green paint at some areas from time and wear as well suggesting the coat of paint done long ago. No seam breaks or damage.
Stands 11" tall with a base diameter of 5 3/8".
A rare piece of early lighting that would look lovely displayed amongst an American Colonial era decorum or collection. Would be perfectly accented on a period candlestand or the centerpiece of a tavern table.
The piece has some weight to it due to its original design and construction. Itself it has a weight of 2lbs 11 oz; hence shipping may appear higher for a piece such as this.
