Original Description:
William A. Flowers (Bill or WA as signed onhis pots), to quote his website ‘began making functional pottery in 1969 afterbuilding his first potters wheel using an old truck axle, odd metal parts and abag of cement – his earliest wood firing experience nearly set his cabin onfire!’  And to continue, ‘Together theFlowers family continues a long-standing southern folk art pottery traditionand drags it screaming towards fantastic modern extremes.’  In the 1980’s, his ...wife Jo, and later son, would join him in the folk pots business. Many of the mid ~1990’s pots onward are signed by both Bill and Jo.  Although mostly based in far western mountainsof NC where his shop and kiln are located, they would also spend plenty of timeon Topsail Beach.  And he would be one ofthe highlights of attending the annual Hickory Fest.  He would get dressed and turn some of mostwild pots that you could ever imagine. More recently he has been mostly retired.  This phenomenal truly devilish face jug likelydates to 2000 or prior.  Obviously, it iswood-fired with a wonderful drippy alkaline glaze as he embraces that southernpottery tradition.  In this pot, he allowsthe alkaline glaze dominate with just touches of melted glass around the eyesand full set of vampiric teeth (i.e. I think the teeth are the neatest aspectof the face jug; also made of clay).  Hishorns aren’t simple spikes, but curved in a manner that flow with theface.   The devil face stands just shy of 10” tall by7.5” max width.  Signed in script Jo& WA Flowers on the upper back side of the jug.  Mint condition.Shipping is $25.00 via USPS, which includesinsurance and double boxing always.  NC sales tax will be added for NorthCarolina residents.
