MONUMENTAL & IMPORTANT MUSEUM-QUALITY HEATH RIBBED EXHIBITION VASE 15” H, c. 1950This is an extremely rare and early monumental signed exhibition vase by Edith Heath. This limited “Ribbed“ line evocative of California Pima basketry, was produced early in Edith Heath’s career and exhibited around 1950. The large scale studio vase measures 15” H x 6.5” D at the base and 4.5” D at the rim. It is decorated with a tan Engobe over hand-scribed ribs with a deep green interior gl...aze. The vessel is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. It is signed with the early Heath & Teacup mark. The vase exhibits an incredible amount of handwork including the deeply hand-scribed exterior ribbing and cut bevel to the rim.Recently at Heath Ceramics in Sausalito, a cache of early pottery was discovered, including a similar 15” Ribbed vase decorated with Engobe and variegated glazes that the current Heath management called an inspiration. A picture of the vase is included above in the photos for reference and the post is on Heath’s Tumbler page at heathceramics.tumbler.com.Monumental studio vases by Heath Ceramics are extremely rare and almost never appear on the market as most of them are already in private and museum collections. This is the only example of this rare and large form I have ever seen in my 27 years of collecting Heath. This unique and important Heath Pottery vase will find favor with collectors of Studio masters such as Otto and Gertrud Natzler, Marguerite Wildenhain, Vivika and Otto Heino, Bea Wood, Glen Lukens, Antonio Prieto and Peter Voulkos.International buyers are welcome but must request permission to bid prior to bidding.
