A rare Chinese export porcelain small sized five piece cupboard garniture for the Dutch market, Long Eliza patterns, early 19th century/ c. 1800. Description:Cupboard garnitures, consisting of matching sets of Delft pottery or Chinese porcelain vases, were very fashionable in the Dutch houses from the 17th century onwards. They used to be placed on the shaped top of cabinets or cupboards. This type of garnitures mostly were assembled of five pieces, which could alternately be arra...nged to obtain a symmetric composition on the stepped top of the furniture. This small sized five piece Chinese porcelain garniture consists of three covered bulbous vases and two beaker vases, all hand decorated in blue and milky white under glaze, painted with oriental ladies (so called 'Long Eliza's'), alternating flowers. The three covered vases each measure about 5, 25 inches (c. 135 mm) high. Both beaker shaped vases stand 4, 5 inches (115 mm) high. The items are unmarked. Some pattern varieties can be found on the items, which is not unusual for groups of hand decorated Chinese export porcelain. The cover finials are shaped as foo dogs. This set was possibly once placed on top of a piece of miniature furniture.Condition: One bulbous vase has a faint and short rim hairline and a minor foot rim chip, another bulbous vase has two faint rim hairlines and a possible old touched up rim spot. The third bulbous vase is perfect. Both beaker vases apparently have old rim restorations; previously touched up spots show some discoloration. One little cover seem to have been touched up as well, both others seem to be untouched. There are no other breaks, cracks or damages. Please view the pictures, which give a good impression of the condition and the quality of these lovely objects. All in all this charming set displays very nicely. This set of vases was made in China during the early 19th century. The shape, pattern and cobalt blue color which was used for the decoration, indicate that it was produced in Kangxi fashion, which covers the early part of the 18th century. Because of the demand for popular designs some were produced over a long period, so it is very difficult to date them exactly. From the 16th century onwards many Chinese products were shipped to Europe. The wealthy Dutch upper class were fond of the delicate China ware and large quantities were transported to Holland. Most of this oriental porcelain was displayed in special China cabinets or exhibited on top of furniture.I guarantee age (19th century/ c. 1800) and authenticity of these charming and highly decorative collectors items, as described above.
