1976 Gibson Les Paul Standard Vintage Electric Guitar Honeyburst W/ Case
Item History & Price
The three-piece maple neck retains its original smooth gloss Sunburst finish on the profile, highlighting the flame figuring that extends up the neck in the central cut of maple. The profile has a slender C shape at the nut with slight shoulders, tapering aggressively up the board and filling out with more heft and roundness in the higher registers, measuring .820" deep at the 1st fret and 1.035" at the 12th. The bound rosewood fretboard has been refretted with medium jumbo wire that has been leveled into “fretless wonder” territory, currently showing moderate, uniform wear on frets 1-2, with lighter wear extending beneath the plain strings until fret 7. The neck is straight, and the frets play cleanly in all registers up the 24 3/4” scale. The nut measures 1 11/16" in width and is an upgraded hand-carved piece of bone for optimal sustain and string-to-string balance. The headstock retains the original Gibson gold silkscreened "Les Paul Model" text along with the "Gibson" logo inlaid in pearl. The tuners are modern gold Gibson Deluxe bolt bushing double lines with greened tulip buttons which turn very smoothly and hold pitch as they should, and the "Standard" truss rod cover is a modern replacement. On the back of the headstock the "Les Paul - Deluxe" serial number decal is intact (an incorrect factory badge, given the reintroduction of the Standard as a non-special order model in '75).
All of the electronics work as they should, with the original quartet of CTS pots that date to the 5th week of '76. The gold hardware shows sparingly little wear, with clean pickup covers, Nashville bridge, and stoptail. The original plastic parts are present as well, and are exceptionally clean including the four gold reflector cap knobs.
In terms of cosmetic wear, this is a very well-cared for and lightly played 40+ year old guitar, and the Honeyburst finish is completely original with zero touchup or overspray. The maple cap presents very well with minimal wear, exhibiting some light scuffing across the pick path and a couple stray tiny nicks. There are some assorted finish scratches across the back and a few tiny nicks along the back body edges as well. The neck profile is very clean, bordering on pristine barring a couple light marks near fret 6 on the treble side of the profile.
The original hardshell case with purple plush interior is included.
