This is one of the best examples of petrified wood from this forest we've offered in years. It is a truly museum grade specimen cut from one of the better logs I've ever seen from Argentina. This piece features intricately preserved wood structure everywhere from the cut and polished face to the exterior bark - real bark - on the outside of the specimen. It's framed by rich peaches and cream colors that preserved the log beauti...fully and really make this a wonderful show off piece. There are several very clearly preserved knots visible on the side of the log showing through the fossil bark. No fractures of significance and polished on the display face to a mirror finish - one of the best quality specimens you'll see from this forest. The darker agate patch in the face is highly translucent agate that still shows wood growth structure of what appears to be a conifer. Don't miss a chance for a choice specimen from this location - when these are gone, there won't be any more!! This is one of the most beautiful, complete petrified wood rounds from one of the most exotic new locations I've seen in quite a while. This very fine grade of petrified wood came from the southern tip of South America in Argentina! It is what remains of an ancient hardwood forest that thrived many millions of years ago. This round comes from the newest of the logs we've gotten from that part of the world. It's a conifer of some type, probably araucaria. If you follow our auctions, you know what a horrible time I have getting photos with lots of light colors to turn out - this round is in that category. It is much more striking in real life than my camera can capture. The agate preservation in the center is what it's all about though - these picture wood pieces are the finest that this famed petrified forest produces and are by far the most desirable for a collection. This top quality round is not only 100% there, rind and all, but it has some of the most stunning growth ring detail you'll ever see in petrified wood. If the timeless mystery of this piece isn't enough for you, then I'm certain the simple, natural, gemmy beauty of it will be. The colors are warm and rich and the entire piece is completely preserved in a very high grade of agate. The high agate content allows this stone to be polished to a liquid perfect, lustrous finish that only the best grades of fossil wood can achieve. This round is on the large end for most of the Argentina specimens I've seen. There must be big trees down there, but the only ones I've seen have mostly been smaller than this. All in all, this is one of the best rounds from one of the most interesting locations you could hope to find. This round is is a perfect slice taken from the center of a very solid log. It's nearly flawless with only one meandering fracture line (completely stabilized) working across the face. It's really a nice piece, but what else would you expect from a business named "Sticks-in-Stones"?!
