This is a Japanese WWll Army officer`s sword in mountings. The blade is signed "Yoshu Saijo ju Taira Sadashige saku 豫州西條住平貞重作", dated "Showa Jukyu-nen Roku-gatsu hi (a day June, 1944) 昭和十九年六月日", shinogi-zukuri shape, WWll time period made blade. Sadashige`s real name is Imai Takeshige, was born in Dec. 1891, lived in Saijo city, Ehime prefecture, studied under Takahashi Yoshimune, made swords ...as a Gendai smith, listed in John Slough`s book page 150, 151 and rated 2 Million yen. The blade is hand forged, in old polish, shows fine scratches but no rust, no stain and in good condition. The temper line is wavy gunome-choji with kinsuji active temper pattern throughout the blade and has deep temper at the point. Forging grain is tight ko-itame hada, no openings, no blister and no forging flaws at all. There is no bend, no nick, no crack and cutting edge is sharp. The scabbard is lacquered heavy metal scabbard, shows minor aged lacquer loss but no dent, no bend and in good condition. The handle is tight fit, tsuka-ito wrapping is no cut, no loose also in good condition. Lock mechanism works fine. Tsuba and seppa are matched number 7 stamped. It came with orange-red/brown colonel grade sword tassel, no cut, no fade and in mint condition. It measures 26+1/2" tip to the guard, 25+3/4" cutting edge, 1+1/4" width, 6.5 mm thickness at the notch and 40+3/4" in mountings.
