This is a Japanese Army officer`s sword in mountings. The blade is signed "Yasuhiro 靖廣", dated "Showa Juichi-nen Ku-gatsu Kichi jitsu (lucky day Sep. 1936) 昭和十一年九月吉日", shinogi-zukuri shape, before China war time period made blade. Yasuhiro`s real name is Miyaguchi Shigeru, born in 1897, trained by his father Masatoshi, also studied under Kasama Shigetsugu. In July 1933 he become a master swords...mith for the Nihonto Tanrenkai, located at the ground of Yasukuni shrine and was given name Yasuhiro. In Jan. 1937, he became head instructor for the Okura Tanrenjo, applied the smith name Ikkansai Kunimori or Miyaguchi Kunimori on swords made at the Okura Tanrenjo, listed John Slough`s book page 182, 183, 184 and rated 1, 8 Million yen. The blade is in old polish, shows fine scratches but no rust, no stain and in good condition. The temper line is wavy ko-gunome with choji-ashi temper pattern throughout the blade and has deep temper at the point. There is no bend, no nick, no crack and cutting edge is sharp. The scabbard is glossy lacquered heavy metal scabbard, shows aged scratches but no dent, no bend and in good condition. The handle is tight fit with silver family mon, tsuka-ito wrapping is no cut, no loose and in good condition. Lock mechanism works fine. Tsuba and seppa are matched no number stamped. It measures 27+1/8" tip to the guard, 26+1/2" cutting edge, 1+3/16" width, 6.5 mm thickness at the notch and 39" in mountings. Shipping is $25 priority in U.S. Payment dues within 3 days auction end.
