Pre-WWII Rare!! USMC Map Case EARLIEST “First Pattern” 1940 Depot Made! NEAR MINT!! This is the U.S.Maine Corps' VERY FIRST Depot-manufactured MAP CASE introduced early in 1940 to replace the “Mills Officer’s Dispatch Case (Mills No. 220)!! And within a year was replaced by the 2nd Pattern with the SINGLE External Pocket and a ZIPPERED Interior Map Pocket. These are very, VERY Scarce — and these were SCARCE even by 1941!- CLEAN 80+ year-old light khaki canvas!!- Min...imal moth-nibbles along one edge of the Green Felt LINER and minor separation of stitching of 1 1/2” along one clear Celluloid Panel.- Complete Shoulder CARRYING STRAP with PAD and short TIGHTENING STRAP is present.- Only the SLIGHTEST evidence of use — if ANY! — by an Officer or NCO. ZERO stains or markings to speak of!This is the EARLIEST variant from the USMC Quartermaster Depot with the TWO External FLAPPED BELLOWS-POCKETS and the unique OPEN-MOUTH Interior Map Pocket!!- The SMALL POCKET is lined with USMC dark Forest Green Wool identical to that used for the Service Tunic!- The LARGE POCKET includes an 3-Slot Interior PATCH POCKET to hold Pencils!Size: Folded 8 1/2” x 12” Size: Opened 8 1/2” x 16”These FIRST Pattern DEPOT-Made Map cases rarely turn up! And this one is a SUPERIOR example.
