Gentle Jesus, lovely lamb. Thine and only thine I amTake my body, spirit, soul. Only thou possess me wholeWhom have I on e...arth below, only thee I'd wish to knowWhom have I in heav'n but thee. Thou art all in all to me
The verse has a butterfly, crown, tree and floral motif to its left and a butterfly fruit basket, floral urn and tree to its right. Sarah's name is stitched across the bottom edge of the linen then the whole piece is surrounded by a meandering floral border. The linen has overall discolouration consistent with its age, noticeably darker around the edges with some small faint stains. The colours of the silks are good with the odd stitch missing here and there. The last photo is of the reverse of the sampler and indicates how the colours would have looked when Sarah first stitched it. As can also be seen from the photographs, there are several areas of damage to both the field and edges of the linen. I've photographed the sampler on a white background to highlight this, but once on a similar coloured backing the damage would be less noticeable.Measures 13 1/2" across x 12 1/2"
