Nice WWII Japanese Army Officers Type 94 Shin Gunto with an unsigned tang. The blade measures 27 3/4 inches long, has a few edge nicks, has a straight hamon. Blade has scratches on it, and appears to be in original polish. The Hibaki appears to be brass washed copper. The tang is completely unsigned except for a couple assembly numbers near the tang edge as shown. The blade feels heavier than other Gunto blades I've handled. I'm assuming this is a semi machine made blade (Sho...wato). The tsuka and ito wrap are complete, Handle has the push button release for scabbard. The bamboo handle peg is a newer replacement. This has the pierced brass tsuba (guard)found on early production Type 94's. The scabbard has about 50% of its OD paint, the drag fitting was missing on it when I got it, so I purchased a replacement for it, it is missing the little brass screw that holds it in place, but the drag fitting is secure to the scabbard. Wood lined steel scabbard has no dents in it. This came with a leather combat cover that was stitched onto it, its really tattered, but comes with sword.
