Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:15952507 | Country/Region of Manufacture: United States |
The Triassic in Texas produces some beautiful teeth; this specimen is no exception! This tooth is from Postosuchus kirkpatricki. The name means "Crocodile from Post". Postosuchus is in the pseudosuchia clade and is included in the crurotarsan lineage.
Postosuchus has been articulated in museums to be quadrupedal but ankle formation and orientation of the pelvis suggests that it was actually bipedal with long front limbs that were more f...or grasping than walking. S. Chatterjee, a notable academic paleontologist who described postosuchus, proposed that postosuchus was the basal Tyrannosaur which gave rise to Daspletosaurs, Albertosaurus, T-Rex, and other genus in the Tyrannosaurid family. The teeth certainly are slender and reminiscent of the tyrannosaurs wtih thin bladed teeth like Daspletosaurus! Regardless of descendants, the teeth of postosuchus are very finely serrated and razor sharp! This animal would have been a fierce predator on land in the late Triassic! The massive phytosaurs would have been a threat near water but on land, postosuchus was the king!
