This is a very nice set of 5 phytosaur teeth from the Triassic Dockum Group near Lubbock Texas!
Phytosaurs are enigmatic predators from the Triassic period. They look similar to crocodiles but are only distantly related. The phytosaurs are archosaurs which did later develop into many variety of dinosaurs. The phytosaur family is varied with many different species: some are small just a meter or two, others are massive and can reach lengths of 10+ meters. Phytosaurs lived along river...s and lakes in similar environments to where crocodiles live today. They lived alongside giant amphibian salamander-like animals called Metoposaurs, and remained watchful for the fierce postosuchus, an apex terrestrial predator distantly related to the Late Cretaceous T-Rex.
These teeth were collected in a channel deposit environment likely deposited along the calm banks of a roaming river and over-bank swamp.
I love the variation of colors in the set. Each tooth roughly measures between 11 and 12 mm long with good serrations and overall condition.
The set comes in a Riker Mount with picture card of the animal.
