Very good condition original pre WWI ImperialGerman SG-98 Mauser quillback bayonet that is maker marked “SIMSON & CO.SUHL” on the right ricasso and dated 1906 on the spine. Bayonet shows rare anddesirable German Navy use with a “crown M” marking on the blade spine. Additionally, the bayonet is unit marked “II.W.D.2449” on the left side of the guard for eithera Dockyard Division or the Danzig Dockyard. Bayonet is serialized on top of thetang, as is correct for Na...vy bayonets. This rare Navy marked bayonet wasformerly in the Craig Brown collection. Blade has nice bright finish with a fewsmall spots of light pitting and has been sharpened. Remaining metal finish is brightwith some light pitting on the pommel. Wood grips have been refinished and havesome dings, lock button functions fine. Fitted in correct original leatherscabbard that has steel throat and tip. Leather shows some wear, stitching andstaples are tight. Scabbard is unit marked “II.M.AA 2012” on the throat for the2nd Naval Artillery Detachment. Also has two cancelled unitmarkings-“W.W.3679.” for the Wilhelmshaven Dockyard, and “I.M.D.1142.” for the1st Naval Division. A very rare Navy marked SG-98 bayonet that willmake a fine advanced addition to a collection.
