Very good condition pre WWI ImperialGerman 71/84 Mauser bayonet that is maker marked “V.C. SCHILLING SUHL” on theleft ricasso and dated 1888 on the spine. This model was also used with the GEW88 Commission Rifle. Bayonet shows rare and desirable Bavarian use with a“crown L” marking on the blade spine. Unit marked “B.12.R.R.211.” on the leftricasso for the Recruiting Depot of the 12th Royal Bavarian InfantryRegiment “Prince Arnulf”, Weapon 211. Blade has original... bright finish with alittle scattered gray and has been sharpened. Remaining metal finish isoriginal bright with some gray. Wood grips have original finish and a goodtight fit with some normal handling marks, lock button functions fine. Fittedin correct original leather scabbard that has steel throat and tip. Leathershows some wear, stitching and staples are tight. Scabbard is unit marked“B.5.R.M.G.25.” on the throat for the Machine Gun Company of the 5thRoyal Bavarian Infantry Regiment “Grand Duke Ludwig of Hessen”, Weapon 95. Alsohas a cancelled unit marking-B.19.R.E.4.95.” for the Ersatz Battalion of the 19thRoyal Bavarian Infantry Regiment “King Viktor Emmanuel III of Italy”, Company4, Weapon 95. A rare 71/84 Mauser bayonet with Bavarian markings that will makea fine advanced addition to a collection. This bayonet was formerly in theCraig Brown collection.
