Vintage Carved Wood Moai Kavakava - (Spirit With Ribs) Rapa Nui Easter Island. Condition is Used. Shipped with USPS Priority Mail.This wooden KavaKava is a skeletal emaciated male figure with the traditional sunken belly and prominent ribs. He is known as the “Spirit With Ribs”, which is what the Rapa Nui word KavaKava means. He is carved from one piece of wood and is more sought after because his arms and ears are separated from his body. It requires additional carving skills to a...chieve this. His eyes however do not have the traditional bone and obsidian, but he still has the look of horror in them. He’s a rather skinny guy, and kind of leans to the left. He does stand in his own regardless. There are small chips to the base and left lower ribcage area, and left ear. There also is what looks like a crack across the bottom of the stand, and few on the sides that don’t amount to much. They are not bad considering he’s probably pretty old. Unfortunately he has no markings, so I’m not sure of where he originated or his age. He was old when I got him over 20 years ago. Please look at the pictures as they are part of the description.
