Antique Dutch/Flemish Candlestickfrom around 1480-1520This candlestick was likely made in Flanders in the 15th/16th century. It is locally known as a ""Knoopkandelaar" or "Knob Candlestick" because of the blade knobs that decorate the stem. The candle cup has a vertical rectangular extracting hole that is repeated on the opposite site of the cup. The straight stem is decorated with four knops. The stick consists of two parts, the... foot and the stem. The stem is peened tightly into the base and shows the original very dark patina. The foot functions as a drip tray with the elevated edge. This is a rare and highly desirable candlestick.The candlestick is about 10.5 inches tall and has a base of about 5 inches in diameter. It weighs about 1.75 pounds.The candlestick is in excellent condition for its age. It exhibits normal wear and tear and there are no restorations as evident in the photographs.
