Biographical note : (Canavese 1470 - Bologna 1538), in Latin Chrysostomus Javellus, Chrysostomus Casalensis or Cavanacius (from his place of birth). Dominican philosopher and theologian of the Italian Renaissance. He taught for a long time at Studium in Bologna (1507-1519), and he composed commentaries on most of Aristotle's works, and defended the Thomist reading of these works. In ethics, he seemed to prefer Plato to Aristotle as being closer to Christian values. The main controversy of his career was against the Averroese Paduan Pietro Pomponazzi and the refutation of De immortalitate animae of the latter. His commentary on Aristotle's Metaphysics had a great influence on later Spanish scholasticism.

Since he believes that the only eternal motion is circular with a constant speed, the motions of the planets must be circular. This comes to be called "The Principle of Uniform Circular Motion" and even Copernicus believes in it.--------------------------------------------------Author: Javelli (Giovanni Crisostomo, father)
