Two slim pamphlets delicately held together with the tiny chipped remnants of previous spine. Leaves, loosening/detaching in places (few leaves little tatty/bumped to edges, see photos). Measuring approx. 26cm x 17.5cm. Worm chips to bottom inner edge of first eight or so leaves, and this continues as several thin worm trails to inner edge of the rest of the leaves. Couple of spots, and the odd pale mark. Pale toning/offsetting, else the majority of contents remain in clean condition.

This scarce COMMONWEALTH ACT, in which Cromwell's government details the excise and duties levied upon various merchandize, including Cider, Wine, Druggs, Lace etc, and the costs, and power given to the enforcers of this taxHis Highness the Lord Protector and the Parliament, taking into serious consideration the Engagements which at present lie upon the Receipts of Excise and New-Impost, and finding the Imposition of the Excise to be the most easie and indifferent Levy that can be laid upon the People, as well for and towards the discharging of those Engagements, as for the carrying on the other urgent and pressing affairs of this Commonwealth, and defraying the Charges of the Naval Forces thereof, in the present War with Spain, and against the common Enemy.Penalty for working on the Sabbath day.; How to be levied and disposed.; Imprisonment.For every pound of Spanish Tobacco, or other Tobacco, which is not of the English Plantation, as well already imported and remaining on the hands of the Importer, as to be imported, to be paidFor every Tun of Wine that is not of the growth of Spain, or Dominions thereof, as well imported.Woollen Cloath, Hops, Soap, Strong Waters, Silk, Lace, Druggs, Stone Wares, Vinegar, Spirits, Salt, Wax, Tallow, Barrel of Beer or Ale, Saffron, Blubber-oyl, Whale-Oyl, Mead, Cyder, Perry etc etc No search to be made without consent, but between Sun rising and Sun setting.; Penalty for refusing search, or concealing Wines
