Based on the frame, I would estimate it dates from the turn of the century, circa 1900s.
The overall frame measures 24 3/8 inches high x 20 3/8 inches wide (61.9 cm x 51.7 cm). The visual part of the artwork measures 15 1/2 inches high x 12 inches wide (39.4 cm x 30.5 cm).
There is something very intriguing about this drawing. I’m sensing it is based... on a famous painting, as it just has such a great old world look about it.
As the artwork was being held in with just two nails, I took it apart in order to photograph it.
The pastel is on heavy paper. It has scattered foxing marks, scattered scratches (most notably on the right when staring at it), and a small touched up tear at the top.
The mat surrounding it has wear along the sight edge at the top.
The frame has mostly been painted over with a lighter color of gold, though it looks like it was applied in a semi-artistic way. The applied decorative composition is all intact with just some minor nicks.
It has its original old bubbled and wavy glass.
It weighs 4 lbs. 4 oz. (1.932 kg).
