The text is in English. Jean De Berry, or John Duke of Berry (1340–1416) is p...rimarily rememberedas a collector of the important illuminated manuscripts and other works of artcommissioned by him. The Book ofHours, created for him by the Limbourg brothers, isthe most famous and possibly the best surviving example of French Gothic lateMedieval illuminated manuscript. In thefirst half of 1416, Jean de Berry and the three Limbourg brothers – all lessthan 30 years old – died, possibly of the plague, and an unidentified worked onthe famous calendar miniatures in the 1440s. The nineteen colour plates in this bookinclude all 12 calendar miniatures (January to December) as wellas The Fall; The Angels’ Message to the Shepherds; The Meetingof the Magi; The Adoration of the Magi; The Coronation of theVirgin; St. Michael Vanquishes the Dragon; and, Christ Tempted bythe Devil. The book measures 7.5inches x 4.8 inches and has 47 pages (including illustrations). The book is ingood neat condition for its age.
