The b...lade is an old shortened tachi and looks to come from the Sue-Yamato tradition of swordsmiths, ca. 1400’s to 1500’s. The blade and the fittings are in Excellent condition. It is a healthy sword and has a bladelength of 21.75 inches (55cm). The sword has a smaller kissaki and looks tohave been an older tachi that wasshortened over time to its current length. The hada is a well-grained itame hada that mixes with masame hada. The hamon is a Yamato-stylesuguha hamon. The hamon is presentthe length of the blade ending in a maruboshi. There are activities like niehotsure, nijuba, and uchinoke inand along the hamon.The tang is mumei, or unsigned, and o-suriage, orgreatly shortened. Based on the workmanship, the sword looks to be from aschool related to the Yamatotradition, possibly later Tegai or Kanabo schools which were active fromlate 1400s into early 1500s. A shinsa should be consulted as final authority.The mountings are naval version Kai Gunto and are in Excellent condition. The tsuka issilk-cord wrapped with cherry blossom menuki. There is little to no fraying.The tsuba is classic naval rayburst with four accompanying metal seppa. Thesaya (scabbard) is black lacquered wood. It shows a few small dents, somecracking, and some small areas of missing finish. It looks to retain roughly 85-90% original finish. The bladeitself is in Excellent condition.There are no nicks, a few small spots of rust, and some scratches along theblades length. There are a couple small ware. There are no major flaws likehagire. I think this piece would be a superb addition for a collector of WW2militaria or Japanese swords.Terms andadditional items: This item isoriginal and not a knockoff or fake.
