Th...e blade represents the opportunity to own a historic Shinto katana, ca. 1600s, in Shin Guntomounts. The blade and the mountings are in VeryGood condition. The sword has a blade length of 26.25 inches (67 cm). Theblade features a straighter curvature, similar to swords made in the 1600’s. Theblade features a well-grained itamehada. The hamon is a narrow midare ispresent the length of the blade through the kissaki where it ends in a maru boshi.The tang is mumei, or unsigned, and ubu, or unshortened.Based on the shape and workmanship, the sword looks to come from a school like Bungo Takata working in the early tomid 1600s. Swords from Bungo were known for being strong and good for combat. The mountings are Type 98 ShinGunto and in Very Good condition.The tsuka is silk-cord wrapped with cherry blossom menuki. There is little tono fraying. The tsuba is classic WW2 with a complete set of eight accompanyingmetal seppa. The saya (scabbard) is a green painted metal. It shows no dentsand several small areas of missing finish, retaining roughly 75-80% original finish. The blade is inVery Good condition. Thereare a couple small micro nicks along the edge, several scattered small spots ofrust, and some scratches along the blade’s length. There are a few small ware, acouple of which are an inch long. There are no major flaws like hagire.Given the age and history ofthe sword, I think this piece would be a great addition for a collector of WW2militaria or Japanese swords.Terms and additional items: This item is original and not aknockoff or fake.
