The bl...ade and the mountings arein Very Good condition. It isa healthy sword and has a blade length of 23.5 inches (60cm). The hada is atight itame hada. The hamon is a straightsuguha hamon.The tang is signed KinsakuTakayamato Tosho Ishihara Masanao. This translates to a respectfully madeTakayamato, made by Masanao. The signature also includes the polisher’s name. Takayamatowere a type of sword developed during the war-era by the Navy Col. TakayamaMasayoshi who also developed a martial arts school for test cutting. He developedthis type of sword for usage by the Navy but they were also commonly used byhis students and other practitioners of tameshigiri, or cutting.The mountings are naval version Kai Gunto and are in Very Good condition. The tsuka issilk-cord wrapped with cherry blossom menuki. The wrapping is tight with littleto no fraying. The tsuba is solid black with four accompanying metal seppas.The saya (scabbard) is classic Naval-style rayskin. The saya shows no dents butsome scratches and small areas of missing finish, retaining 75-80% original finish. The bladeitself is in Very Good condition. Itlooks to have been used for tameshigiri, or cutting practice. Thereare several small nicks along the edge, little to no rust, and several scratchesalong its length. There are no major flaws like hagire. I think this piecewould be a great addition for a collector of WW2 militaria or Japanese swords.Terms andadditional items: This item isoriginal and not a knockoff or fake.
