NOTES/Particulars/Please read all: Absolutely Genuine '1944 WW2 "Tweedie" 2 Man tent with "South Bend Toy Mfg" wooden poles dated 1944, Genuine .051" Riveted aircraft aluminum stakes, & accessories. This tent was a total luxury item in WW2, and was mainly issued to mountain troops (10th Mou...ntain Infantry Division), special forces and other special units, as well as regular infantry if you were lucky. THE TENT REVERSES TO A WHITE EXTERIOR FOR SNOWY ALPINE OPERATIONS. In any case, it was also used in tropical and tundra environs as it has mosquito nets on the entrances. This tent, was well designed for the era, as it had 2 entrances and entrance "tunnels/snorkels", with 2 ventilation snorkels, as well as rubber impregnated fabric as a means to waterproofing. For total water protection, a tarpaulin would have covered the tent (tarp not included). This tent even has the original cotton ropes. I absolutely guarantee this item to be original WW2 1944 Manufacture. This was a 2-man tent, but would be the Hilton or PussyCat Palace for 1 man and all his gear. Operational weight is approx 9-1/2 to 10 lbs.
Tent Condition: Way above average for a 75 Year old item. It does have some very small pin holes here and there on top, normal wear, smells correct for USGI issue. No real tears or rips found. The interior white does have some light soiling. You would be hard pressed to find a '44 Tweedie in this condition. It is used however, but reenactors will find this tent fully operational with proper care and storage.
Tent Care: This tent was stored correctly for 75 years. Moisture, mold, dirt and debris will ruin this tent in no time at all. It would be very wise to treat the fabric with a tent/fabric preserve spray like "Aqua Armor". This will add life and flexibility to the fabric (always test small area first). Rub beeswax/orange oil on the poles to keep wood from drying out. Store in dry, cool dark area. Do not roll up wet, mold will attack it. Proper care will result in another 75 years of life in this tent. While all your buddies are freezing to death with their shelter halves, you will be snoring away, pest free in the Tweedie Hilton whilst clutching your Garand and dreaming of the Balimpa sisters back home.
THE HARDCOVER BOOK: "Daniel & The Revelation" This book was with this tent, it is dated '1944, its in excellent condition. Good reading at night, getting your spiritual house in order, waiting for Washing Machine Charlie or the Nebelwerfers to make their 0200 visit. I include this book as it is the right thing to do, as it was with it in the Duffel bag.
2 Life Magazines: You get (2) Life magazines, Dated Oct 30th '1944 and Feb. 12th 1945. The '44 issue is quite emotional.
The Duffel Bag: This tent and books came in this bag. I am including this duffel or seabag as part of this package.
