Early 1800's 1 gallon ovoid salt glaze stoneware jug made in Manchester, Connecticut by Woodbridge, Bidwell & Co. Debossed on the front shoulder is the makers mark beautifully brushed with cobalt blue. The spout is reeded and the hand drawn strap handle is dobbed in cobalt blue at the connections. Additionally there are seven more cobalt blue dots as decoration. The condition is very good as this is a very early jug. There are a few base straw marks or very tight short lines (pictu...red). Only one of these can a finger even catch on which is very faint. Richard Pitkin of the Pitkin Glass Works in Manchester, Connecticut established a stoneware kiln around 1800. When Dudley Woodbridge married Richard Pitkin's daughter he was put in charge of the Stoneware Works. Less is known about his partner Bidwell. This is a great early piece of stoneware in truly very good condition. Buyer pays shipping. Feel free to ask any questions or for additional images.
