A fine and rare c1815 Harvey Lewis silver Federal coffee pot.
Son of a carpenter, Lewis apprenticed under Joseph Lownes c1800.Opened his own shop Lewis & Smith 1804-1810 in Philadelphia.Listed alone thereafter.
Numerous important commissions.His greatest work the spread wing sphinx footed ink stand now displayed in the Yale U. Art Gallery.Works in the Winterthur, Ph...iladelphia Historical Society and other museum collections.
This rare c1815 coffee pot is in classic rectangular form with out-curved corners and raised panel center.Wavy gadroon overhang rim.Cover retains the original flaming lotus finial, quite unique.Rolled thumb crown tapering panel handle.Atop cast ball feet.

Script engraved MTTL (?) for the original owner.
This c1815 American silver Federal coffee pot is 11 inches handle to spout
and weighs 27 1/2 standard ounces.
In fine condition.Interior clean as if little used.Rich silver patina
and retains original detail and original handle.Few tiny shallow bumps to sides.
