If you're an uncompromising collector of antique technology, make sure to check out all my listings after you look at this one. I don't think you'll find a better, broader or more balanced assortment of technical antiques anywhere -- hundreds of no-reserve auctions each year, almost all of them featuring eye-popping "gee whiz" gadgetry in exceptional original condition. And don't forget, you can click this link to quickly add and then save me to your favorite seller ...list and Ebay will automatically send you updates when I put similar new auctions online.
Here's a 1906 Columbia BH Disc Graphophone. It's been professionally restored to condition that approaches mint, and it's perhaps the most beautiful example of a BH that I've ever seen. It's in excellent working order, and it will arrive ready to play and enjoy.
The phonograph features a rare, original, heavily embossed "Peacock" horn, with a span of 20" and lavish gold and black decorations on both the interior and exterior surfaces.
Cabinet finish is smooth and glossy and just about perfect, as is the cabinet decal. Original Columbia Analyzing reproducer, with patent information stamped behind the mica. Original motor, original gear train and governor, original crank, etc.
No dents or damage to the horn, and the paint is outstanding.
Plays early 78 RPM records -- Victor, Columbia, you name the brand. Analyzing reproducer is loud, crisp and clear. Motor is strong. Easily makes it through a record without the need for additional winding.
The phonograph is the perfect size for just about any kind of room, and any kind of surface. Small enough to fit on a shelf, but large enough to anchor an end table. Base measures approximately 12" x 12" x 7". The phonograph and small parts will be shipped in one package. The horn will be shipped in another package.
I'll include with the phonograph an early, acoustically-recorded record, and if you get tired of listening to it, there are plenty of other titles available on ebay and elsewhere. Thousands of early acoustic 78 RPM records show up on ebay on a weekly basis, and they typically sell for just a few dollars each.
I've been selling and shipping antique phonographs, antique radios and antique scientific apparatus for more than 25 years. When you purchase an antique phonograph from me, you'll receive a phonograph that arrives safely because it's been carefully packed (by me, not by some well-intentioned but nonetheless confounded, doe-eyed teenager working at the UPS store who wouldn't know a phonograph from a farm tool), and you'll receive a phonograph that includes thorough but easy-to-understand set-up and operating instructions, so you won't be left scratching your head, trying to figure out how it works. Sure, you can probably get a lower price from Joe and Janet Barn-Find, but when your "bargain" arrives broken, and without any hint of how it works or how you might be able to put it back together, you'll realize that you really do get exactly what you pay for.
That's about it. I will carefully prep everything for shipping and pack everything carefully and properly. Overseas bidders, please contact me in advance for a shipping quote. The phonograph cannot be shipped to all countries, so please have me confirm my ability to ship it you before you place a bid. Auction participants with no prior feedback history, or with hidden feedback, should contact me before placing a bid. Buyer prepays and includes shipping.
