Original Description:
Very early bronze and lead 1 pound flat weight with significant markings. This is a super example of an early flat weight made of bronze with a lead infill at the back. It has the Roman style ‘A’, for Avoirdupois, stamped at the top. It has a circular ring in the centre with a ‘lb l’ stamped within. In the lower left hand side it is stamped ‘H - 5’ either side of a circular crest. At the bottom it has been stamped ‘1826’ either side of a London Ewer mark. I believe this... was an update mark so it could still be used after that date. I believe it was made considerably earlier than that date. There is also a faint stamp on the lead infill on the back with ‘5 - H’ on either side of a circular crest. According to my modern digital scales, it weighs 15.928 ounces. It measures 2 13/16 inches (72.00mm) in diameter. Please look carefully at photos to see exact item and condition.
