This antique Chinese children's festival silk embroidered butterfly wind hat cap dates from 1900. It is hand stitched, made of a purple silk fabric with colorful raised padded satin stitch hand embroidery work, flowers, Chinese characters on the sides and a beautiful butterfly with Peking knot embroidered details appliqued on the back, with a silk damask weave ribbon tail hanging d...own the back with the swastika symbol stitched which is the Chinese character for ten thousand and longevity. The butterfly symbolizes long life. This charming child's wind hat cap is fully lined with a blue cotton fabric inside. These Chinese children's ethnic hats were worn at festivals and designed to provide protection from evil spirits, demons, and ghosts, but also to influence the wearing with important qualities such as wealth, health, courage, academic success, happiness, long life, grace and beauty. The hat measures 7 inches wide, 3 inches tall and 19 inches inside crown circumference. It is in good condition with only some wear and fraying on the butterflies wings (see close-ups).
