This particular form of bottle is illustrated in Chris Green John Dwight's Fulham Pottery (1999), p. 154 no. 318. It has the same sloping neck and neatly rolled-over rim which was presumably so f...ormed to accommodate a wire tie for the bung. Green dates this type to circa 1740-75 (p.151).
The bottle is 6 5/8 inches tall. The top half has a rich, almost lustrous ferruginous dip while the bottom half has a light amber colored slip. The handle has a typical Fulham flattened shape with a light channel down the center and is fixed to the body at the lower end with a circular depression which looks like it was made with a special potter’s tool.
The condition is excellent with no chip, no cracks, and no restoration. This is a fabulous item if you love to collect or deal in English saltglazed stoneware and a great decorative piece - we hope you like it and good luck with your bid!
