This US Navy Spec. binocular also allows images that are much brighter towards the edges of the field than any other wide field binocula...r. The reason for this is all in the size of the prisms. Smaller prisms, as used in most commercially made wide field binoculars, do just fine closer to the center of the field of view. But as you move away from the center of the field, the full illumination of the image falls off. In this binocular, the BaK4 prisms are large enough to provide near full illumination to the edges of the field of view. The design also produces few, if any ghost images on bright images. I did comparisons using streetlights at night, and the full moon. Most commercial wide angle binoculars produce MANY bright ghost images. This binocular offered only one faint ghost image that was very easy to ignore. The eyepieces are of an advanced optical design that provide a very wide "sweet spot" with razor sharp focus. Some consider this to be the finest wide field binocular ever produced. If manufactured today, it's hard to imagine how many thousands of dollars it would cost. Also included is the original leather binocular strap.
